Kell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit.

Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. People fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. Once there was Black London - but no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell smuggles for those willing to pay for even a glimpse of a world they’ll never see. This dangerous hobby sets him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a dangerous enemy, then forces him to another world for her 'proper adventure'.

But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive — trickier than they hoped.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab is one of my top anticipated releases for 2015. It is going to be released February 24, 2015. I have yet to read a book by Victoria Schwab, but the excerpt of A Darker Shade of Magic has me wanting to read more by her, and especially the rest of the book. Just reading a piece of it was pure torture. This definitely makes me want to pick up more of her books!

A Darker Shade of Magic is an adult fantasy/time travel type book set during the 1800’s. The plot takes place in London, but a very different London than we know except for grey London that is without magic as opposed to the other parts of London. It involves different types of dimensions/worlds within London if that makes sense. Grey London is kind of the London that we know, red London is filled with tons of magic, white London is chaos with a fight over who has control over the magic, and black London is an area where no goes since it was separated from everything else years ago. I really love the complex and inception type world that Victoria has created here. It is kind of difficult explaining the world, but I think Victoria does an awesome job of explaining how everything works in the beginning.

The main character Kell, a magician, is able to travel between the different dimensions of London, and so he delivers each of the kings of London monthly correspondences. Of course things happen that complicate matters. But anyway, the plot and the world is so unique and fun! It is such a fast paced book. I cannot wait until the book is released, so I can get my hands on a copy and see how it ends.

I received an excerpt from Netgalley in exchange for a review.

It sounds like an awesome book. I’ve not read anything by her yet either, but I really want to read Vicious. I’ve got to make sure I read it before this one. Anyway, I hope you like this book once you get to read the whole thing.

By the way, I like the new look for your guys blog. The colors are very spring-y
